I lived in San Diego from 1977-1993and experienced the curious pull between the conservative and more liberal people. When I saw the city mayor publicly acknowledging a change of heart about gay marriage, it brought tears to my eyes. It gives me such hope in humanity, to know that we can learn to recognize compassion for others in our own hearts.

Hi Brian, I posted a link to this blog on my OWL blog so that people will be able to check it out. Are you still on vacation? I noticed that you're not on my reader's list anymore. Did you withdraw or did I delete when I changed the address. If the latter, I appologize.

I think it's interesting that this Video as resurfaced so much recently. This press conference took place in September 19, 2007. Way before Prop 8 was even on the radar. Each time it get's passed around, people think it's current news. So, I thought I'd at least note here that the announcement made by Mayor Sanders is not the result of the recent 2008 election events. It was a politically brave thing for him to do and was motivated by local San Diego events at that time. More importantly, it was the result of the love of a father for his daughter's happiness. Which, I think, makes it even more powerful!

Hi Cynthia,
No, I haven't been on a vacation at all this year.
I wish but no.
I wonder why you say that?
Thank you for linking my blog although I haven't been on here forever!
I didn't withdraw (that I am aware of) and I just finally figured out how to add myself.
